The FBC Food and Clothing Mission is located on Church Street in Mt. Vernon.  It was established in October 2000, with much prayer and a donated building.

The mission statement reads, “Our mission is to physically and spiritually minister to the hungry and thirsty based on the words and commands of Jesus in Matthew, “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink.  I was a stranger and you invited me in.  I needed clothes and you clothed me.”
Matthew 25:35-36
We feel this mission provides us with opportunities to feed the spiritual as well as the physical need.  Volunteers take prayer requests, witness to clients, pray with them, and make Bibles available to them.  The Mission is staffed solely by volunteers from FBC, as well as by members from some area churches.  The hours are 9:00 am -2:00 pm on Mondays and Wednesdays and 10:00 am – noon on Saturdays.

We would like to invite everyone to be a part of the ministry by giving clothing items they no longer need or the seasonal clothing that no longer fits.  The mission accepts clothing in good condition with no stains or needed repairs for men, women, children, and infants. Clothes should be reasonably up to date, conservative, and in good taste.  Items should be clean and preferably on hangers. There is a great need for women’s plus sizes.
Our Mission continues to provide temporary assistance for daily living with food and clothing in the name of Jesus Christ.  This ministry operates on donations from FBC and the general public.  Throughout each school term, different local schools sponsor food drives to help stock the pantry.  Food items are always needed.  We cannot accept perishable food, nor home-canned food.  Protein items, such as tuna, peanut butter, dried beans, etc. are always needed.  There is a need among our diabetic clients for canned fruit in its own juice, as well as other appropriate items.

Other than food and clothing, we can use blankets and quilts.  Gently used baby items are needed as well.  Donations of personal care items, food and clothing are accepted at the Mission during normal hours of operation.  Cash donations are always greatly appreciated and can be mailed or delivered to the church during regular office hours or on any Sunday.
